skier tommy

Having seized Olympic Gold in the 1994 downhill, skier Tommy Moe also grabbed the silver in Super G on his 24th birthday in Lillehammer.

It's taken skier Tommy Moe two seasons to rehabilitate an injury to his right knee, but he feels strong, healthy and is ready to compete with the world's finest in high-speed skiing in Nagano. Moe consistently placed within the top five downhill and Super G World Cups prior to his injury. Moe will need to rustle up some of that Olympic racing spirit for a shot at another Lillehammer performance.

NFL: Favre breaks record for victories

Brett Favre picked an almost perfect way to become the winningest quarterback in National Football League history.

He hit his first 14 passes of the second half and threw three touchdown passes to rally the Green Bay Packers to a 35-13 victory over Eli Manning and the New York Giants on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The victory was the 149th of Favre's 17-year career and gave him one more than the Hall of Famer John Elway.

The loss was the second straight for the undisciplined and error-prone Giants, something that has not happened at the start of a season since 1996.

Kimi Raikkonen wins in Belgium as Lewis Hamilton trails in fourth

Kimi Raikkonen kept his Formula One world title hopes alive with victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, spearheading Ferrari's third one-two in the last five races.

Pending a possible appeal by McLaren in the spy scandal after the team were stripped of all constructors' points in Thursday's World Motor Sport Council hearing, Ferrari are again team title winners.

Raikkonen's 13th win of his career and fourth this season for the Maranello marque means he now trails leader Lewis Hamilton by 13 points, with runner-up Felipe Massa 20 points adrift.

Hamilton could only manage fourth as he and third-placed McLaren rival Fernando Alonso were comprehensively beaten by the Ferraris. With just three races remaining in Japan, China and Brazil, Hamilton's cushion to Alonso is now just two points.

Tour Championship has turned into target golf - Woods

World number one Tiger Woods has criticised the East Lake course which is hosting the Tour Championship in Atlanta for being the easiest he has played in more than a decade as a professional.

Woods took a three-shot lead into the final round but that does not mean he is happy.

He knows officials had little choice but to heavily water the greens, which are severely stressed by record summer heat.

However, he could not hide his disappointment.

“I can’t remember too many courses easier than this one,” said Woods, who shot an effortless six-under-par 64 yesterday.

“I prefer not to play it like this. I prefer courses where [when] you shoot something in the 60s, you’ve earned it.

“That’s why I love the US Open so much. You shoot a round in the 60s there, man, you’ve thoroughly earned it.

“When you get greens this soft and pins this easy and greens this slow, you’re going to have a bunch of birdies. You fire at every flag, even if you have a five iron.”

As for the rumor of Britney Spears appearing at The Emmy's ... don't expect that to happen! Did you really think, Brit Brit would get on stage just one week after the VMA's catastrophe?!

Ryan Seacrest, who will be hosting the event, commented on the idea of Britney appearing at The Emmys: "I’m trying to figure out how Britney fits into the context of television’s biggest night... I don’t know anything about it."

Heroes Masi Oka, who is up for an Emmy as supporting actor in a dramatic series, said: "It' been a fun and very fast experience. Kanye West beats 50 Cent in album battle

Kanye West has beaten 50 Cent in the British leg of their much-hyped "battle of the rappers" after his new album "Graduation" went straight to number one in its first week.

Chicago rapper West outsold his New York rival's latest release, "Curtis", which got the number two spot, the Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday.

The showdown attracted huge media attention around the world after 50 Cent suggested in an interview that he would scrap his solo career if he lost the race for the top spot.

Figures due to be released later on Sunday are expected to show that West also sold more than 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, in the United States.

West's third album "Graduation" features a guest appearance by Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin and samples of music by Elton John, Daft Punk and Steely Dan.

Who Did It?

The continuing controversy over If I Did It, O.J. Simpson's hypothetical memoir, made its way onto Winfrey's show Thursday, with all the major players—minus one big one—taking to the airwaves to discuss their feelings on the book.

The rights to the book, also released Thursday, passed from Simpson to the family of the late Ron Goldman following a bankruptcy judge's ruling. The family continues to attempt to collect more than $30 million owed them from the wrongful-death judgment against Simpson.

Who killed Nicole Simpson? It’s a question most people considered answered even before O.J. Simpson wrote his “hypothetical” book about how he would have murdered his ex-wife and her friend Ron Goldman if he had done it. Now, the only folks who still think O.J.’s innocent are the jurors from his criminal trial. And even some of them may finally be having their doubts. (“Hmmm, maybe there was something to all that ‘DNA’ mumbo jumbo, after all …”)

The new controversy is over the decision by Ron’s father, Fred Goldman, to publish O.J.’s self-serving book — to which the Goldman family gained the rights thanks to their judgment against O.J. in a civil trial 10 years ago.
Nicole Simpson’s family is furious about the move. In a telephone interview, Nicole’s sister, Denise Brown, told the Washington Post, “This is evil, this is blood money,”

Sometime during his career as host of “American Idol,” Ryan Seacrest was apparently bitten by the singing bug . Seacrest has hinted at opening the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards, which air live Sunday at 8 p.m. with a musical number of his own.

While Seacrest may or may not showcase his vocal skills, a host of celebrities have been confirmed as presenters. Steve Carrell, Kelsey Grammar, Patricia Heaton, Katherine Heigl and Keifer Sutherland are among those presenting at the show, which will take place at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which was founded in 1946, awards the Emmys in honor of primetime television. Thirty-three of the 54 nominations for comedy and drama programs, as well as leading and supporting performers, were not included among last year’s nominees, according to the Academy’s Web site.

Griffin's 'Jesus' Mockery At Emmys Draws Fire

Comedian Kathy Griffin may have won an Emmy but we won't hear who she has to thank for it. The D list celebrity has people up in arms about her acceptance speech at the creative arts Emmys last Saturday, in which she blasted Jesus.

Griffin said, quote, "A lot of people came up here to thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. This award is my God now!" A lot of folks are angry about the red headed comic's comments, saying the speech was vulgar and some were calling it a hate speech.

9-11 “white plane” mystery

It was about 10 am on 9-11. The hijacked planes had already hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon (the Pentagon crash occurring at 9:37 am), and the White House was among the government buildings in Washington that were being evacuated.

NORAD had scrambled fighters into the air without any clear idea of where the fighters would go or what their responsibilities or orders were.

At that moment, a mysterious plane appeared in the restricted air space above the White House. That plane, as you’ll see in the clip, was most likely an Air Force E-4B flying command post.

Lex Luger on McMahon, Muchnick on Deaths

ESPN.com features a story on Lex Luger, who now walks with aid of a cane. In it, he says: "I was a heartbeat away. I almost overdosed probably dozens of times.

I had a really fast metabolism. Part of why Lex stayed so lean wasn't just drugs. God blessed me with a very fast metabolism. I metabolized drugs quickly. That is not good, but it saved my life a bunch of times. I went in deep a bunch of times with pills and alcohol.

I was a pill-popper. And I abused alcohol toward the end, real bad. And I got caught with steroids in my house. I am a convicted felon. I deserved it. And I take accountability for that. I am trying to help others avoid what happened in my life, and my family and friends that I devastated. I dishonored my profession. I dishonored my community, all because I couldn't control myself and got this sick other lifestyle and drug abuse. I want to help our young kids stay away from that."
